Crichton wins Two Bank Challenge

NORHAM Running Club's Castle Bank Challenge took place last Thursday and proved to be big success for all involved.
The race, kindly sponsored by JH Greenwood (Chartered Accountants) Ltd, had an excellent increase in competitors and spectators were treated to some excellent racing.
In a very close finish Dunbar's Andrew Crichton took first place in 20 minutes an
d 4 seconds with Norham's Keith Lyall very closely behind in 20.07. Mark Flannigan from Norham was third in 20.21. Dunbar's Ian Sills took the veteran's prize in 20.38 and was fourth overall. Top junior was Edinburgh AC's Stewart Fraser in 20.41.
In the ladies section, overall winner was Gala's Hannah Jones in 26.42 and 29th overall. Norham's Caroline Tyser was first female veteran in 26.57 and 30th overall.
Norham Running Club took the club team prize, a team from the sponsors JH Greenwood and Co taking the Unattached team prize.
Other Norham Running Club finishers were; Brian Nichol 6th in 21.00, Tim McCall 10th in 21.44, Les Turnbull 11th in 21.52, Gordon Johnston 13th in 22.59, Alan Wood 1 4th in 23.34, Gareth Greenwood 15th in 23.35, Mike Jones 23rd in 25.13, John Pigg 27th in 26.05, Allan Macaulay 28th in 26.16 and Jim Greenwood 41st in 29.46
At the Peebles 10K road race Norham's Gordon Johnston was 26th in 39.33. Clubmate Steven Simpson was 32nd in 40.42. John Pigg was 71st in 45.57.
The in-form Les Turnbull had another impressive run at the Eildon Two Hill Race when he finished 10th and 3rd in the MV50 category in a time of 35.12. Gordon Johnston was 24th in 37.20 and John Pigg 42nd in 42.34.
* MEMBERS of Berwick Harriers competed in some events recently.
Alan and Gillian Hunter ran together in the 28th running of the Blaydon Races completing the course in 66min 53sec, while the second round of the Harriers' senior handicap series resulted in: 1 Richard Stevenson, 2 Katie Overton, 3 Peter Learmonth and 4 Jeanette Learmonth. Overall leader is Richard Stevenson on 13pts followed by Katie Overton on eight, Stuart Birkett seven & Alan Hunter six.
In the Norham Two Bank Challenge junior 4K run, Jake Birkett was first U13 boy in a time of 17.59 with Jess Bagley first U13 girl in 19.15.
In the 5.5K run, Craig Scott was 21st in 24.31, Terry Gilliland 34th in 27.26, Katie Overton 38th in 28.05, Peter Learmonth 44th in 32.41 and Jeanette Learmonth 46th in 36.30.
